Mass Russian Missile and Drone Attack Kills Civilians Across Ukraine

Russia launched a large wave of missiles and drones across Ukraine overnight, killing civilians—including children—and injuring dozens in cities far from the front line.

Ukrainian officials said the assault involved more than 70 missiles and 280 drones. Strikes were reported in Kyiv, Lviv, Kryvyi Rih and other regions, damaging homes and triggering fires while rescue teams searched shattered buildings.

Air defences under pressure

Ukraine said most incoming weapons were intercepted, but the attack exposed continuing shortages of Western-supplied air-defence missiles. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed calls for Patriot systems and additional interceptors.

Poland scrambled aircraft after detecting an object near its airspace. Authorities were investigating whether a cruise missile crossed the NATO member’s border during the assault.

Conflicting claims

Russia said it targeted military factories, drone-production facilities and ships allegedly carrying supplies. Reuters said it could not independently verify Moscow’s claims. Ukrainian officials reported substantial civilian casualties and residential damage.

Ukraine also launched long-range attacks on Russian infrastructure, including oil refineries, as both sides expanded operations beyond the battlefield.
