Boy George has been withdrawn from a West End production of Jesus Christ Superstar after a pro-Israel song posted on his social media accounts sparked backlash.
Why he left the production
The singer had been scheduled to play King Herod at the London Palladium in August. His manager, Paul Kemsley, announced that Boy George would no longer appear, saying the decision was made out of respect for the production and to prevent the controversy from distracting from the show.
The dispute began after Boy George posted a reggae song responding to arguments about the Israel-Gaza war. Critics accused the lyrics of dismissing Palestinian suffering and attacked the singerās framing of the conflict. Supporters defended his right to express a political position.
No finding of misconduct
The departure is a professional decision, not the result of a court ruling or disciplinary finding. The production has not accused Boy George of illegal conduct, and his managerās statement did not say he had been formally dismissed.
