Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni settled the remaining central claims arising from the production of It Ends With Us, avoiding a trial after a legal dispute that dominated Hollywood coverage for more than a year.
How the case developed
Lively alleged harassment and retaliation after raising concerns about Baldoni’s conduct on set. Baldoni denied wrongdoing and brought a $400 million defamation action involving Lively, Ryan Reynolds and others. Much of that countersuit was dismissed because statements made to a California civil-rights agency were protected.
Settlement did not end every issue
After key claims were resolved, Lively sought legal fees and additional relief under a California law designed to protect people who report alleged harassment from retaliatory defamation claims. Baldoni’s representatives said the outcome vindicated him and maintained that there had been no harassment or smear campaign.
A carefully divided outcome
Both sides publicly characterised parts of the result as victories. The settlement avoided a trial, but it did not produce a simple judicial finding that endorsed every allegation by either party.
The film earned more than $350 million worldwide despite the controversy.
